The GHS Track & Field Program dates back to the very early 1900's and has a rich tradition. From world record holder Frank
Wykoff to Olympic medalist Dwight Stones, GHS athletes have found success being a part of our program. Now, with our all-weather
track, we look forward to the continued success that our athletes have had over the years.
We have both boys and girls teams,
both at the Frosh/Soph level and Varsity level. Main tryouts are in early December and Mid-January. New athletes are encouraged
to try many events to improve their chances of being invited onto the team. There are 14 different events, so there is plenty
of opportunities for students to find a place to excell.
Since Cross Country is a younger sport, it does not have the years
of memories as does our track program, but it does have its moments. Since the early 1960s, our program has been a haven for
both the competative athlete as well as those who just wish to get themselves in better shape.
For both the boys and girls, we
have 3 teams: Frosh/Soph, Junior Varisity, and Varsity. Workouts begin in June and continue all summer long, with our season
starting in September. With no team size limitations, all athletes get a chance to run a full race everytime.
We encourage
all hard working students to give our running teams a try, whether they are looking for a sport they can excell in to those who want
to participate in a second sport when their season is over.
I hope to see you out on the track.
Coach Bailey
